Massey Street of Hope Gala & Auction

The Massey Street of Hope Preview Gala & Auction was held on Friday, September 11, and was a chance for a select few to tour the homes and celebrate the kick off to this 16-day event in style! Sponsored by Long & Foster Realtors, the event featured a live auction to benefit VCU Massey Cancer Center raising $100,000. Auction items included a Tuscany Villa Getaway, a South African Photo Safari, an exclusive Montana Ranch stay, an 18-karat white gold diamond necklace from Vera’s Fine Jewelers, VCU floor tickets with a pre-game dinner and after game drinks – plus transportation, and 4 Redskins tickets at FedEx Field (game to be announced).

AUCTION ITEM DETAILS:

#1. 4 Redskins Tickets at FedEx Field – December 7th, Monday Night Game Against the Dallas Cowboys.

If you are a Redskins fan you will want to bid on these lower level tickets to the Redskins versus the Cowboys Monday Night Football game on December 7 at FedEx Field! This auction item is donated by George Mason Mortgage.

#2. Casa Luce Tuscany Villa Getaway

Accomodations for your stay in Cortona, in the Tuscany region of Italy, includes a 2 bedrooms villa, plus a loft (bedrooms feature queen beds, plus there are 2 single beds located in semi private mezzanine loft, suitable only for children under age 16.) Sleeps 4 adults and 2 children. The villa also features 2 ½ baths Kitchen, dining and living area.

Cortona is the jewel of medieval Tuscan hill towns. Ideally situated two hours north of Rome and 90 minutes south of Florence, Cortona is well known from the best-selling book and movie, “Under the Tuscan Sun.”

The road up to Cortona winds through olive groves, vineyards, and farmhouses and arrives at the entrance of the town’s ancient walls. The view of the valley below is one of the most spectacular in all of Italy, stretching out to Lake Trasimeno, Montepulciano and beyond.

Along with museums, churches and other historical sights, Cortona offers a wealth of good restaurants, cafes, shops and entertainment. The town has retained its local, historical character without selling out to trinket and souvenir shops that dominate so many other Italian towns. Cortona is an ancient, walled hill town with many stairs, steep streets and limited driving/parking with no elevators or handicap accommodations. Please be advised of this if you have mobility issues of any sort.

Months before your arrival in Italy, a consierge will assist you via email in arranging local activities such as cooking classes, wine tours, museum passes, car rentals, and more. You will be personally greeted at her office in Terontola, (a small town 10 minutes from Cortona), before arrival at your accommodations, where you will have the opportunity to fully personalize your vacation with purchasing the following activities and tours:

• Cooking classes
• Wine tours of the nearby hilltown of Montepulciano, home of the famous Vino Nobile wine. Further afield are wine tours of Montalcino (home of Brunello wine) and the Chianti region (home of Chianti Classico wine)
• Excursions to Rome, Florence, Venice and other popular destinations
• Visits to the nearby hill towns of Siena, Orvieto, Perugia, Gubbio, and Assisi
• A visit to the Giulio Gialletti ceramic factory in Deruta, the ceramic capital of Italy
• Tours of local artisan olive mills, where guests observe traditional olive-pressing techniques and taste the freshly pressed oil (late Oct. thru Nov. during the olive harvest)
